TERRORISM IN INDIA

Or TERRORISM PROBLEM IN INDIA

Or CURSE OF TERRORISM

Or HORRORS OF TERRORISM

Or PROBLEM OF TERRORISM

Or TERRORISM AND NATIONAL SECURITY

Terrorism has become one of the major causes of unrest in India today. Terrorists create fear and panic among people to achieve their selfish designs. There is political terrorism which seeks to achieve political ends by creating terror among the common people.

There is also criminal terrorism which indulges in kidnappings and murders in order to extort huge amounts of money or force governments to fulfil their demands. Usually young people become terrorists because they are not mature enough to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong.

The masterminds behind terrorism are old and seasoned politicians who manage and coordinate the terrorist activities. They are fanatics and extremists who fill the minds of young people with strange fanatic notions and persuade them to commit acts of terrorism. Terrorism has no place in a democracy which is based on the belief that all problems can be solved through talks and governments can be changed through ballot boxes.

In India, terrorism has been a major problem since independence. The terrorism in Punjab and Kashmir has been inspired and aided by our neighboring country. Pakistan has been supplying the young terrorists with money and arms and ammunition. The Pakistanis even train these terrorists in camps in their own country and smuggle them into India. It is very difficult to seal the borders completely and any attempts in this direction may lead to increase in terrorist activities.

Terrorism in Punjab has been finished but it still is a major problem in Kashmir: It has spread to almost all parts of the country. There have been series of blasts in Delhi and other places. A number of eminent personalities have been killed. It is obvious that it has become difficult to curb these terrorist activities. The Anti-Terrorist Act passed by the Parliament provides harsh punishments for acts of terrorism. Before this there was Arms Act to curb unauthorized accumulation of arms so as to maintain law and order in the country.

Laws have been made to prohibit the use of religious places for political purposes and also for hiding anti-social elements. However, terrórists are still very active and they plan cleverly before striking. They are in a position to step up their operations at a time and place of their own choosing. The government has been unable to curb terrorism through law-enforcing agencies.

Big personalities like Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi have been unsuccessful in negotiating with the terrorist outfits and many have been killed in the process. But different agencies of law enforcement along with media have been successful in making the youth aware of the evil effects of terrorism to a great extent. Elections have been held successfully in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and people. who earlier had vacated their homes, are now going back to their homes.

Terrorists are now losing the sympathy and cooperation of general public. This is a healthy sign and hopes have bloomed that our country will be free from the menace of terrorism,
