1- Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below: 5×2=10

Florence Nightingale was the first woman who was awarded “The Order of Merit’ for her pioneering works in nursing profession. She was born on May 12, 1820 of a rich family in Florence, Italy. It was unthinkable for a woman of respect able family to go out for a job in those days. She offered her self to provide healing touch to the wounded soldiers in the Crimean war. She served them so well and with such great love that she became a legend in the nursing profession. We remember her as an embodiment of love, sacrifice and dedication for mankind. At the over crowded Scutari Hospital, she was often found serving the wounded soldiers even in the midst of night holding a lamp in her hand. Its result is that succeeding generations know her as The Lady with a Lamp’.

In true sense she was a human being. Serving humanity means serving God. Serving needy people in the society and working for the humanity is a kind of worship. People who per form good deeds are always remembered.

Writing in a diary is a really strange experience for someone like me. Not only because I have never written anything before, but also because it seems to me that later on neither I nor anyone else will be interested in the musing of a thirteen-year-old school girl.
